Yearbook Yourself

In Uncategorized on October 29, 2009 at 4:27 am

A hilarious website I have to share with you all is that of ‘Yearbook Yourself 2009′. They claim “It’s never too late to relive the glory days. Upload your photo and check out how you would have looked throughout the decades.”

All you have to do is upload a photo of your head, and then scroll through the various set photos they have, applying your face to the comical images to view how you would have looked in the 70s, with a sexy mullet. Always wanted to be a cheerleader? Place your head within the frame and see yourself with all those bubbly cheergirls. Sexuality a problem? Felt like you were born a man, trapped in a girls body? This website allows you to change gender – your face can be transformed into that of a school boy/girls, allowing to see what would have happened if things turned out right.

Here are some images of myself, courtesy of this humerous website:

Join the Humane Chain

Although not ‘pop culture’ related in the least, The Humane Chain is an important organisation I urge all to get involved with.

The Humane Chain initiative is run to promote awareness for the terrible treatment sheep recieve during exportation. A statistic that may surprise you is that every year four million Australian bred sheep get exported to the Middle East. Death is a common factor for these innocent sheep, with heat stress, little care and disease all consuming the animals. The sheep often starve to death, as the little pellets the handlers call ‘food’ are not recognised by the sheep to eat and thus starvation takes tens of thousands of sheeps life, as this is the only form of nutrition the sheep are given.

The journey often takes weeks to get to various places across the world – and whilst onboard, a single sheep can be one of up to 100,000 animals confined to the ship. They are often kept in crowded, poorly lit dens, and there is three sheep for every 1 sqaure metre for the long and frightening trip. It is truly an alarming statistic.

The Government refuses to investigate this mistreatment because, as to date, the mortality rate per ship has not reached over 2%. It doesn’t sound like much, but the number of deceased animals reaches into the fifty thousands. And just because the sheep have survived the journey, does not mean they did not suffer.

All those cruel things are just what happens on the journey alone – once in the Middle East the sheep are likely to be treated with cruel handling, and are often slaughtered without stunning.  There is photographic evidence of sheep being trussed, which involves the tieing together of their legs and feet, and being transported on the roof of cars, in countries such as Jordan, where temperatures can reach  50 degrees in the summer months.

The Humane Chain aims to create awareness of this horrible exportation. Please join online now and join the Twitter page to make a difference and help prevent this sereve treatment of innocent animals.

An example of the horrendous treatment sheep recieve in the Middle East.

Lady Sovereign, in Australia  touring for Parklife, was arrested and charged in the early hours of Saturday morning on September 25th  after spitting in the face of a Brisbane bouncer outside The Beat Nightclub in Fortitude Valley.

According to ABC News, she was later thrown out of the venue ‘hysterical, shouting and struggling’. She appeared in court this morning and was charged for spitting on the bouncer and being drunk and disorderly. The fine was $400 and a further $200 as compensation to the bouncer (apparently the “love me or hate me” defence doesn’t work in Brisbane).

The ‘biggest midget in the game’ is touring with the Parklife festival.

Check the notorious ’chav‘ out on these dates:

 Saturday 26th September – Brisbane
Sunday 27th September – Perth
Saturday 3rd October – Melbourne

“Dude, her head is bigger than her pelvis”

Notice anything unusual with this image? Look closely… How about the fact the models head is larger than her hips?

The photo is taken from a promotional poster for Ralph Lauren’s Blue Label. The grotesque photoshopped frame of 23 year old model Filippa Hamilton has received an enormous amount of criticism for it bizarre and  freaky depiction of the human body. The image initially appeared on the comical Photoshop Disasters and then was re-blogged on Boing Boing, prompting the Ralph Lauren lawyers to issue a take down notice.

Ralph Lauren sheepishly responded with the following statement: “For over 42 years we have built a brand based on quality and integrity. After further investigation, we have learned that we are responsible for the poor imaging and retouching that resulted in a very distorted image of a woman’s body. We have addressed the problem and going forward will take every precaution to ensure that the caliber of our artwork represents our brand appropriately.”

Upsettingly, the rumours WERE false- there is an obvious lack of rock band Blink 1-82 in the 2010 Big Day Out line-up. “Uprising” song writers Muse are stepping up to the headline plate, local talent Bluejuice will no doubt performing for all the Triple J fans and electro DJ Groove Armanda will be painting the boiler room in eight shades of techno.

A second show for Sydney has been announced, which will coincidently fall on the 100th BDO show. There will surely be something huge organiser Ken West  plans for this momentous occasion.

Mickey Mouse and The Hulk become one

In Uncategorized on September 8, 2009 at 5:17 am

The Walt Disney company has formed with comic book empire Marvel Entertainment for approximately $4 billion US. Marvel is famous around the world for its 5,000 plus characters, including Spidermen, the Hulk, Iron Man and the Fantastic Four.

“This transaction combines Marvel’s strong global brand and world-renowned library of characters … with Disney’s creative skills, unparalleled global portfolio of entertainment properties, and a business structure that maximizes the value of creative properties across multiple platforms and territories,” said Robert A. Iger, president and chief executive officer of the Walt Disney Company in an August 31 press release.

Marvel has also stated that they believe the transaction will prove to be significant to all.
“This is an unparalleled opportunity for Marvel to build upon its vibrant brand and character properties by accessing Disney’s tremendous global organization and infrastructure around the world,” said Marvel Chief Executive Officer Ike Perlmutter in the same release.

Spurred by the news of the formation, the graphic design and illustration boffins have creatively mashed up icons from both institutions, making characters that resemble watching disney on drugs.

Christina Aguleria enlists Santigold, M.I.A. for new album

In Uncategorized on August 21, 2009 at 2:53 am

Source: http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/08/17/christina-aguilera-recruits-mia-santigold-for-upcoming-album/

After album after album of raunchy R’n'B tunes, X-Tina is back  with her next release including a parade of indie and dance heroes, including Sri Lankain ‘Paper Planes’ singer M.I.A, and Brooklyn’s singer/songer writer Santigold, listed as additions to her latest collaboration.

Holla-ing at her own online radio station on aperadio.com, the ‘Stripped’ scarlett named those artists, but didn’t reveal too many details about her album, which is expected to be released in late 2009 or early 2010. “I know I can’t let too much out the bag too soon,” Aguleria said. “I just can’t, ’cause I really want you guys to be surprised and to experience firsthand what I’m talking about or what I’m not talking too much about.”

A change of pace sound familiar? Christina seems to be searching for a flux not seen since her outrageous girl-next-door ‘Genie in a Bottle’ transition to her racy ‘Dirrty’ escapade. But with such promising artists, the outlook seems positive. Keep your eyes peeled!

Is that Ms or Mr, Semenya?

In Uncategorized on August 21, 2009 at 2:23 am

Following the Lady Gaga gender scandal comes another sex-related controversy, this time yeilding from the World Athletics Championships held in Berlin, Germany.

Eighteen year old Caster Semenya, representing South Africa, obliterated her competitors in the 800m race as she crossed the line a whole 20m, or 2 and a half seconds, before the worlds best female 800m runners, which was the biggest winning margin in world championship history.

An amazing feat this would be, if not for her masculine development – her facial hair, jawline, deep voice and flat chest ringing alarm bells for IAAF officials and all those who have seen this ‘woman’.

The silence of the crowd said it all – there was no applause, cheering or yelling.  It was obvious they were shocked – what looked like a boy had just completely smashed its female opponents and had gone on to win the gold medal. The audience, and more than likely Semenya’s competitors, felt cheated that the race was fair, or even legal.

Semenya now is facing gender testing to determine whether the track star is, in fact, a woman.  The head of the International Association of Athletics Federation said this test was due to “ambiguity” as opposed to believing ‘she’ cheated. The test, which takes weeks to complete, requires a physical medical evaluation, and includes reports from a gynaecologist, endocrinologist, psychologist, an internal medicine specialist and an expert on gender. If found that Semenya is in fact a man, she will be stripped of her gold medal – although if she is not, one must feel sorry for the utter humilation she has been put through on an international scale.
